Secure Folder is a small folder security application that lets you hide, lock and encrypt the folders effectively. The freeware utility uses AES encryption algorithm to give you good encryption results.
Using Secure Folder, you can protect or hide unlimited number of folders at a single time. It has a very simple interface and supports drag and drop operation.
Initially, after installing Security Folder, it asks for a password which will be required every time you start this utiliy. It will also be set to the folders that you want to lock. Every time you want to access that folder you have to enter the password. You can even encrypt or hide the folders for more security. A total of 7 protection modes are possible. These include
- Lock and Encrypt
- Lock and Hide
- Encrypt and Hide
- Lock, Encrypt and Hide
Locking a folder simply means password protecting the folder. If you enter the password, you will be able to access the files. Hiding a folder is exactly same changing the attributes of files to be hidden. You can view these files by viewing the hidden files using folder and search option. Encryption of file lets you encrypt the file, so that you cannot open the file. For example, it changes *.jpg files to *.pdf.xxx or *.tiff.xxx.
Even if you try to change it manually, you will not be able to access the file. Thus, you can see that various combinations of above mentioned three features can be very protective indeed.
Secure Folder comes with a file size of 380KB and requires .NET Framework 2.09 or above. It runs smoothly on Windows XP, 2003, Vista and Windows 7(32bit and 64 bit).
However there are some limitations of this nifty utility as well. Lock feature does not work for Fat, Fat32 and exFat volumes and the encryption does not take place properly if the file size exceeds 100MB.
Overall, Secure Folder seems to be a very useful protection tool with varied feature. I am quite impressed with it. What about you?
