Windows 7 God Mode : Extended Control Panel for Windows

Recently there has been a lot of buzz about the Windows 7 “God Mode” feature which provides an access to all control panel tasks in a folder which can be referred as Super control panel. GodMode was discovered by my friend Ramesh Kumar when he had posted it at Merawindows in 2007 with different name. Although godname has been adopted from the cheatcodes in Computer games.

Steps to enable it:

1. Create a new folder in any of the folder in any of your Windows partition.

2. Right-click on the folder and click on rename (or press F2 )

3. Rename the folder as WindowsVJ.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

4. Press enter and the icon would change into an extended control panel which enlists all the tasks in Control panel.

The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, and although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause a crash in 64-bit versions of that operating system . It can be referred as an Easter egg in windows. Apart from it i found a list of other special folders which can be created in Windows, at TheWindowsClub :

Here is a select list of CLSID to open Windows Special Folders. Not all may open via the Run command however!

Whenever the Windows shell needs to access such a system folder, it uses the CLSID to search through the Windows Registry to find the appropriate .dll or other object. MSDN has also documented this feature of the Windows shell, whereby special system folders can be easily made into namespace junctions.
